Plectrum(s) You'll find thin plectrums easier to begin with.

Strap (to support the guitar whether you’re sitting or standing.)

Guitar stand (about £7:50 from djmmusic.com)

Things you’ll need and things you’ll really need

Essential

Guitar - most of the group use acoustic guitars with 6 steel strings. You may prefer a nylon strung classical guitar but it will seem a little quiet alongside the others.

Guitar case (a solid case is preferable, or a padded gig-bag)

Tuner Some guitars have built-in tuners and these are generally the best although they're usually only found on the more expensive models. Many players use the clip-on type which clips onto the head and generally work very well, although don’t get a very cheap one as they are not usually very accurate. My preference is the type that clips into the soundhole which enables you to easily see the tuning as you're playing. The model shown below is by KORG, but the D'Addario model also works very well

A4 Ring file (with punched plastic A4 envelopes)

Music Stand (or something to hold your music)

Tablet If you have a tablet with DropBox installed (free), you can access all of the music, notes and videos via the Village Hall wifi and from your home. If you wish to go down this route, you can ignore the A4 folder, plastic envelopes and music stand (and all the paper you’ll have to print on). Instead get a tablet stand (about £18 from instruments4music.co.uk)

Don’t play your strings for too long. Eventually they will break, but before then they will lose their brilliance and sound dull. Learn more about strings and buy your replacement strings at StringsDirect.
