Plectrum(s) Avoid the thick felt plectrums and definitely don't use a guitar plectrum. The thin Feltrums seem to work best. (see opposite) I can supply these.

Strap This is essential if you're playing a Concert or Tenor ukulele to support the instrument whether you’re sitting or standing. Even soprano players will find a strap more comfortable.

Things you’ll need and things you’ll really need

Essential

Ukulele - most of the group use an acoustic soprano, concert or tenor ukulele with nylon strings.

Ukulele case - a solid case is preferable, or a padded gig-bag but you really need something to transport it.

Tuner Some ukuleles have built-in tuners and these are generally the best although they're usually only found on the more expensive models. Many players use the clip-on type which clips onto the head and generally work very well, although don’t get a very cheap one as they are often not very accurate. My preference is the type that clips into the soundhole which enables you to easily see the tuning as you're playing. The D'Addario model works very well.

A4 Ring file with punched plastic A4 envelopes.

Roydon Ukulele Players. (19:00 - 21:00) in the Blue Hall.

(Please do not arrive in the car park before 18:45)

We play nylon strung ukuleles but we could have the occasional electric ukulele by prior arrangement.

We’ll learn to play a variety of music from latter half of the 20th Century. Each piece will build upon the skills previously learnt.

If you need to buy a ukulele, check out the guide.

People of all abilities are welcome. You are also encouraged to make suggestions/requests as to what you would like to play.

(£4.00 subs payable on the day to cover the hire cost of the hall - pay by credit/debit card)

Ukulele (Tuesday Evenings)

You may like to try using a plectrum for playing. If so, don’t use a guitar plectrum or one of the 4mm thick felt plectrums, try a classic Feltrum from:

Optional

Tablet If you have a tablet with DropBox installed (free), you can access all of the music, notes and videos via the Village Hall wifi and from your home. If you wish to go down this route, you can ignore the A4 folder, plastic envelopes and music stand (and all the paper you’ll have to print on). Instead get a tablet stand (about £18 from instruments4music.co.uk).

Don’t play your strings for too long. Eventually they will break, but before then they will lose their brilliance and sound dull. Learn more about strings and buy your replacement strings at StringsDirect.

Original Key

Cost is 95p postage and then £3:95 per set of six feltrums (either guitar-shaped pick or traditional equilateral pick, 3 colours per pack).
