I made my first guitar, an electric single cutaway, in 1970. My first acoustic guitar came the following year and was a copy of a 12 string Gibson. I still have it and play it occasionally.

During my early teaching years I taught several people the principals of guitar making but never actually completed a guitar myself because as fast as I made parts, someone bought them from me.

Children and mortgages meant that I didn’t build anything until my I was into my 50s when I started building guitars again.

Later, after developing an interest in playing the ukulele, I began building them too.
